Those trying out Pilates as a system of exercise do so to reduce tension in today’s taxing society, to tone up their bodies and to improve their general level of fitness. While Pilates can be carried out with just a mat and the proper exercises, some individuals choose to vary their exercise work out by using a Pilates exercise ball.

The Cork screw and the Pilates Exercise Ball

The Cork screw is an exercise that is designed to firm up the stomach muscles and the legs. One should lie down on a mat with your legs stretched out in a ninety degree angle. The pilates exercise ball must be held up by the ankles. Inhale and draw the legs up to the left side of the chest (knees can be bent if necessary) and then exhale and bring the legs down again. This procedure should be repeated for the right side, and continued a number of more times, every time alternating the side.

Utilizing a Pilates Exercise Ball for the Double Leg Kick

For this exercise, you must lie face downward with the pilates exercise ball positioned against the torso. While inhaling with 2 quick breaths, the heels must be brought towards the buttocks. While exhaling, the legs must then be straightened out, with the toes touching the ground.

Next, remove the chest from the ball so that just the abdomin is on it. Put your arms at the sides of your body with your hands positioned near the hips. Lastly, breathe out, straighten and extend the spine, and turn neck over to the right shoulder. The entire routine must be done again for the other side.

Employing a Pilates Exercise Ball for Stretched Arms and Hip Rotations

The posture for this exercise is to be sitting with legs bent at the knees, and arms stretched out straight behind the back with palms flat on the ground. With the pilates exercise ball positioned between the lower calves, the legs must then be lifted, and a breath should be taken. Then exhale, and point knees to the right. Breathe out, and point knees to the left. The whole process should then be repeated a number of times.

There are a number of places where you can buy a pilates exercise ball both in the local fitness and sports store or via the internet. Prices vary depending on the manufacturer, quality and size and so it's worth shopping around. Together with correct nutrition, safely including a pilates exercise ball into a daily fitness work out is sure to result in encouraging results.

Although some people have exercise programs that they stick to for many years most of us tire of our routines eventually and wish to try something new. With Pilates increasing in popularity many people are deciding to try it out. However, as with any fitness program, one must first learn some exercises that fall under the category of Pilates for beginners before they try anything more advanced such as using a Pilates machine.

The Hundred

The Hundred is a great example of Pilates for beginners, because it is a very easy yet effective way to make the torso stronger. Lie with the back and shoulders firmly against the floor. Stretch the legs straight out and keep the feet pointed. The key here is to lengthen the body from the head to the toes.

With the back still flat on the floor, now gently raise the head and legs off of the floor. Practice safety by keeping the neck stationary and the chin tucked in. With the arms stretched straight out, breathe in and lift, exhale and lower the legs and head so that they are no more than about 2 inches from the floor at any given time. Repeat at 5 beat intervals 10 times (or, as many times as possible without getting too tired).

The One-Leg Circle

The one-leg circle is yet another good example of Pilates for beginners because it is a way to make the muscles more flexible. Flexibility is indeed a must for those who intend to move on to more advanced Pilates moves.

With the back firmly against the floor, shoulders down, and legs quite straight, stretch out the arms so that they are above the head. Making sure the back remains flat against the floor, breathe in and gradually lift the arms towards the ceiling.

While breathing out, slowly lift the back off the floor and roll forward, keeping the body centered and making sure that the stomach muscles are not loose. Breathe in and stretch the torso over the legs, then exhale and slowly place the back down on the floor. Repeat the entire process again for a total of 10 times.

Because the moves are so gradual and can be easily learned Pilates for beginners is perfect for people who don't have much exercising experience. Also, even the slightest bit of stretching and movement does a body good, and Pilates is a slow but steady way to get the muscles toned. In a nutshell - Pilates is easy to learn and great for both body and mind.

The Pilates exercise routine is a fitness program that works the core postural muscles and promotes good back health. It keeps the body balanced whilst providing spinal support. Pilates exercise routines increase awareness of neutral alignment of the spine and, as mentioned, help to strengthen the deep postural muscles and so alleviate back pain.

Developed in the early 1990s

Named after its originator, the Pilates exercise program was a system that was developed in the early 1990s with the aim of improving health as well as for supporting the health of those who were World War I internees. This was followed by incorporation of springs into programs for rehabilitation used on hospitalized patients and was further translated into machines and finally unique equipment was created that is now used in the Pilates exercise system.

There are a few important principles that are included in all Pilates exercise programs and some of these are using mental focus to improve efficiency of movement as well as controlling muscles, being aware of neutral spine alignment or proper posture while exercising, developing the deep muscles of the back and abdomen in order to support such posture and using breathing to promote mental focus as well as centering. The Pilates exercise program also creates length, strength as well as flexibility in the muscles.

In the beginning, Pilates exercise was mainly used by professionals such as dancers who found these exercises worthwhile for improving strength, balance as well as flexibility and in the 1980s the Pilates exercise was rediscovered and is presently a very popular form of exercise for those who need health benefits. There are two formats of the Pilates exercise and these are using the one of kind Pilates’ equipment in private or semi-private sessions and group mat classes that does not require equipment.

An example of Pilates equipment that uses the resistance of springs in order to create effort is the Reformer which has a sliding platform anchored at one end of its frame. This Pilates exercise platform is able to be moved by pushing off from a stationary bar or pulling on ropes. In contrast, mat exercises which are normally taught in group classes have less scope than that of Pilates exercise machines. They tend to focus on the spine as well as the hips but can be just as effective.

Whether you choose to use machines or just basic equipment in you Pilates exercise routine your health will improve considerably, both in mind and body.

Pilates Work Out: A Complete Physical health System

A Pilates work out is a system of physical fitness that was developed in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates. He wrote a minimum of two books about his Pilates method which include 'Return to Life through Contrology' as well as 'Your Health: A Corrective System of Exercising That Revolutionizes the Entire Field of Physical Education'.

His technique Contrology empahsized using the mind to control the muscles whilst the fitness routine focused on the core postural muscles which keep the body balanced whilst providing vital support for the spine. Pilates workouts teach the student awareness of breath as well as aligning the spine and strengthening the deep torso muscles. The strength of these muscles is important in order to avoid and prevent back pain.

A German National with Greek Descent

Joseph Pilates was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in the year 1880 and was a German national but of Greek descent. He was an avid exercise enthusiast who enjoyed skiing, gymnastics, diving. He was also a martial arts student who developed his body into excellent condition and was, in his teens, a fitness charts model.

During the 1918 influenza pandemic he experimented with ways to rehabilitate bed-ridden sufferers and was able to create a series of movements which anyone could practice in closed confines. Later he trained professional boxers one of whom was Max Schmeling, the noted heavyweight champion.

Rather than perform many repetitions of each exercise, Pilates liked lesser and more exact movements that required control as well as form and, in this endeavor, he designed at least 500 specific exercises. The most frequent of these was the mat work that involved a series of callisthenic motions that did not require any weights or apparatus and could be done on a padded mat.

Pilates believed that mental health and physical health were related to and important to each other so he created a system of total body conditioning. This system emphasized correct body alignment, control, centering, concentration and precision as well as breathing and flowing movements. He called them The Pilates Principles which resulted in greater flexibility, strength, toning of the muscle, awareness of the body and more energy, as well as better mental concentration. Applying these key principles to your Pilates workout still gives better results today.

What are Pilates Moves?

Pilates is a great way to keep fit. If you have heard of yoga and are familiar with it, chances are, you will enjoy learning about Pilates as well.

Pilates has been around for over a century and is one of the fastest growing fitness programs in the country. It was developed by a man called Joseph Pilates who created a series of exercises which would ensure that the body was always healthy and rejuvenated. The philosophy of Pilates was that as long as the body is in perfect balance, i.e. both mental and physical, there is less danger of disease and the body's immunity improves.

What Do Pilates Moves or Exercises Involve?

Yoga works on the principle that you can balance inner energy which is extremely powerful to ensure your overall youth, mental stability and body stamina. This is achieved through breathing exercises and different postures which channel the energy. Pilates on the other hand concentrates more on the physicality of it. It is a system of strengthening and stretching exercises designed to tone your body.

Unlike other exercise methods however, instead of performing a series of repetitions of each move, Joseph Pilates preferred fewer, but more precise movements requiring control and form. He designed more than 500 specific Pilates moves to be included in his method. The most frequent form of those moves is mat work which involves a series of calisthenic movements done without weights or other apparatus on a padded mat.

After the development of mat work, Pilates designed five major pieces of unique exercise equipment that he claimed should be used for best results. It is interesting to note that although the two components of Pilates moves are often taught separately nowadays, the Pilates method was always meant to combine both mat work and equipment exercises.

Total Gym Pilates is an exercise system that trains you into the best physical shape of your life in nxt to no time. You will be surprised by how quickly your body is improved when you use this approach. The Total Gym Pilates technique is very easy to use and you will find yourself happily anticipating your workout routines.

The system requires a dedicated three days every week. So, how much time do you need to spend on Total Gym Pilates during these three days? You may not believe this but, at most, just 20 minutes is all that is needed of you. Some might think that committing to three days every week is a lot but it really isn’t at all.

If you think about it, this means that you merely spend an hour a week exercising on the Total Gym Pilates machine. This is astonishing considering that lots of us spend more time than that at the dinner table each night. You can’t even wash and dry a load of laundry in this amount of time.

I find that I usually spend considerably more time on my Total Gym Pilates technique. This is simply because I am addicted to it. I love the way that I feel while I am working out and I really love the way I look after a few dedicated hours a week. I tend to spend three hours a week in my Total Gym Pilates practice which is three times the minimum requirement.

If an effort to attain the perfect "six pack" have you been putting yourself through endless difficult exercises such as tummy crunches and sit ups which are not only painful but can also damage your back in the process? Well, the good news is, you no longer need to do so. Pilates abs exercises are not merely easy to perform, but also enjoyable as they do not hurt or put your back at risk when carried out correctly. Also, you can often see results in as little as one month.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise system system invented by the German, Joseph Pilates, during The first world war. This fitness method was developed in order to help sick people who were bedridden and therefore, was focused on low impact exercising with high results.

Pilates does not require any weights in order to be done. but you do need loose fitting exercise clothes. This is important as a lot of stretching is involved in Pilates and you need to be able to move without resitriction. So, it requires that your clothes are not tight in order for them to not be uncomfortable. Bare feet are best when practicing Pilates but you may wear trainers should you not be comfortable with bare feet. You will also need a Pilates mat in order to get going practicing today.

Pilates exercises are focused on and work with your ‘core’. These are the muscles of your abdomen, back and pelvis. Workign with your 'core' muscles allows you to control the tone and shape of the rest of your body. A Pilates abs workout is part of every single workout you practice since Pilates works with the ‘core’ and that always engages the abs. However, there are specific Pilates abs exercises as well.

Why Pilates Abs Exercises are Popular

The reason Pilates abs exercises are popular is because you can practice them without any pain and yet see incredible results in the shortest period of time. All Pilates exercises must be practiced with regularity and as indicated or else results will take longer to appear than desired.

Because all Pilates exercises are done through and with the ‘core’, your abs will work out even when you are not doing a Pilates abs exercise and that usually means that your abs are being worked out twice as much. That, in turn, means you will have great looking shapely abs twice as fast compared to doing other rountines.

Pilates abs exercises are an easier and quicker way to developing great abdominal muscles without pain and with less sweat. Done correctly and regularly Pilates abs exercises will create great abs in next to no time and you'll even enjoy the process.
